Turkey sits between the two calendars everything else on this page belongs to. It is a Northern Hemisphere Mediterranean producer, so on paper it competes with Spain — but its windows generally sit a few weeks off Spain’s rather than on top of them, and it sells east and north as much as west, into Russia, the Gulf and increasingly the Far East. Cherries are the clearest case: Turkey is the largest cherry exporter in the world, and its early-summer window is the Northern Hemisphere’s answer to Chile rather than a competitor to it.

Most of it never sees a deep-sea container. Turkish fruit reaches Europe by refrigerated truck through the Balkans or by ro-ro across the Adriatic, which is faster than any sea routing and is why it arrives fresher than the distance suggests. What ships in boxes is the volume going further — the Gulf, Southeast Asia, and the UK, where the paperwork changed after Brexit. Mersin is the citrus port; İzmir serves the Aegean crops. Interdonato opens in September, Lamas and Kütdiken carry from October into the spring, and stored fruit ships past that into the early summer. Mersin is the port.
