Thailand is the origin where one crop sets the whole year. Durian is the volume, the price and the congestion; mangosteen and longan ship alongside it and are planned around it. The national window is really two regional ones end to end — the eastern orchards of Chanthaburi, Rayong and Trat first, the southern provinces behind them — which is why “Thai durian season” is a longer answer than a single pair of months.

Most of what leaves in a container is going a very short distance: Hong Kong and southern China are a few days from Laem Chabang, and a great deal more crosses into China by road without touching a vessel at all. That proximity is what makes the sea programme work on fruit this perishable, and it is also why almost nothing that goes wrong on these shipments goes wrong at sea. The weeks to watch are the peak weeks, when vessel space and terminal slots run out well before the fruit does.

Durian

Roughly March to August, in volume from April. The eastern orchards in Chanthaburi, Rayong and Trat open the season and the southern provinces carry the back half of it, so the country ships for considerably longer than any one growing region does.

Mangosteen

May–July peak · April, August shoulder

Roughly April to August, on almost the same weeks as durian and often in the same booking. That is the useful thing to know about it: mangosteen is at its best and cheapest exactly when vessel space out of Laem Chabang is at its tightest.

Longan

July–August peak · June, September, November–February shoulder

The natural crop out of the north — Chiang Mai and Lamphun — runs July and August, opening in June. The second band, from November into February, is the off-season crop: growers flower it deliberately with a potassium chlorate treatment, and it is what supplies the weeks around Chinese New Year.

Young coconut

There is no closed window. Thai aromatic coconut is cut every week of the year, and the peak band is where yields and demand firm together through the hot dry months rather than where the crop starts and stops.
