Mangosteen shares its window and often its booking with durian, which is the practical point of the calendar below: the weeks when mangosteen is cheapest and best are the weeks when vessel space out of Laem Chabang is hardest to get, because everybody is shipping at once.

The fruit travels better than its reputation suggests — the thick rind is a container in its own right — but that rind hardens as it dries, and a hard rind is read as old fruit by a buyer even when the flesh is perfect. Humidity in transit does as much for arrival quality here as temperature does.
