Cucumbers are a counter-season vegetable programme rather than a fruit trade: Honduras grows them for the North American winter, in the months when domestic and Mexican greenhouse supply is thinnest.
They are chilling-sensitive — below about 10°C they pit and go translucent — which puts them at an awkward setpoint for a mixed load and rules out most long voyages. The trade works because Puerto Cortés is close to the US Gulf. It would not work from anywhere further.
