Roughly October to May out of the greenhouses of Almería, opening as supply turns consistent at the end of October and winding down through May as prices fall. This is the largest vegetable programme in the Spanish export trade and it overlaps Morocco’s almost exactly — the two are not dividing the winter between them so much as competing across it.
The month to know is January. Light and cold slow both origins at once: Almería’s yields fall away after a heavy December, and Morocco drops off at the same time, which is why a January shortage moves the European tomato price further than a shortage in any other month. Almost none of it is a container programme in either case — volume moves by refrigerated truck, and the window is worth reading for what it does to the market rather than for shipping planning.
